DIRECTOR OF MECHANICAL AND ENERGY SERVICES

“Energy” is a great word to describe not only what Bob does for a living, but also how he lives his life. As the leader of e3i’s energy group, Bob spends his days providing energy solutions for his clients. Away from work, he spends his free time outside: golfing, playing soccer, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, fishing, and every other outdoor activity you can think of. He loves the perks of being outside: fresh air, a camp fire, a little music, no distractions, and beautiful scenery. All this time spent with Mother Nature, it’s no wonder Bob uses his mechanical engineering skills to help his clients reduce their impact on the environment.

Raised in a typical New England town with his loving parents and sister, Bob learned the work/life balance at a young age. His father was always very serious about work, a “shirt and tie” type guy who set a stellar example in terms of work ethic. But he was also very serious about having fun. Growing up in the small town of Medfield, Massachusetts gave Bob access to top-notch sports and recreation programs. In between high school soccer games (go Warriors!), he studied engineering, physics, and calculus. It was the insight and guidance from these amazing teachers that ignited his passion of mechanical engineering.

Bob attended Villanova University, majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in business. Long nights of studying in college prepared him for long nights of meeting deadlines in the real world. Yet, after graduation, Bob wasn’t quite ready to enter the rat race. Instead, he followed his heart to work at a fly fishing lodge in Idaho for the summer, where he also took advantage of fishing, camping, hiking, and other activities. Next, Bob spent the Winter working at a ski lodge in Wyoming, where was able to ski daily. It was that ski lodge $7/hour paycheck that ultimately motivated him to come home and work a couple of internships before joining RDK Engineers as a Mechanical Engineer. There, Bob was introduced to the newly formed energy group, where his passion grew.

Now, as the Director of Energy at e3i, finding ways to reduce energy consumption and increase energy savings in his clients’ buildings’ mechanical systems is what gets Bob out of bed in the morning (along with two snooze buttons and a hot cup of coffee). What’s the right mechanical system for this particular application? What’s the most efficient? Where are there utility incentives? What are the life cycle costs? What is the cost/benefit analysis for each application? Bob needs to answer these questions for each of his clients. Taking a deep dive into each and every problem and coming up with the right solution is a challenge he happily accepts. He also loves the fact that he gets to come to work every day and collaborate with his close friends, fellow e3i staff. Shouldn’t we all be so lucky.
